Term 1
No 4 23rd February 2005
Week
4 and we have all well and truly come to grips with the new school year.
Class
programmes and routines are becoming well established in every room. We have gained new students this term, four have moved
to new schools and some of our children have had a change of teacher. Experience
tells us that on average it can take ten to fifteen weeks for a child to adjust to such change. While some appear to breeze through the change, other worry and fret and it can affect their progress at
school.
It is
important for you to keep supporting your children during these changes. Educational
progress takes team work. It takes the child, the family and the school to cover all bases.
The Board
and staff of our school consistently aim to do the best and be the best we can be. However,
that does not necessarily mean we get it right all the time, we aren’t perfect, but we will guarantee to make every
reasonable effort (and sometimes more) to address issues and challenge that arise.
Parent
Interviews will take place on Wednesday 9th March. Please look out
for the appointment form next week, and make the time to meet with your child’s teacher.
Communication is the key to your child’s success. Sometimes you
will be aware of things that we aren’t – and vice versa.
The better
the communication, the better the chances of your child’s success. Mark
the 9th March on your calendar.

Ways to help your children succeed.
Build your children’s sense of self-worth. As children grow and make choices they will make mistakes. Knowing
they have your unconditional love and support whatever happens will help them pick themselves up and start again when things
do go wrong.
ù
Bugs:
The bugs are on the move again. Please check your child. your child.

Congratulations: to our Mrs Leanne Barnes who has been selected to work in the Southland Sting Development Squad. Great work Leanne!

ù
D.A.R.E. Programme:
For the last two weeks our Year 7 & 8’s have been working with Fenton Herrick the police education
officer through the DARE programme.
The aim of the “DARE to make a choice” programme is to prepare young people to make responsible
choices about the use of drugs and to give them the skills and confidence to implement these choices and decisions.
The positive aspects of this programme is having Fenton Herrick to teach it, it puts another face in front of
the class a new voice giving the message, and the programme is fully funded by the NZ Police, with no cost to the school.
All round a win win situation!

Lost clothes are becoming a problem again, if you are missing clothing please contact the school as soon as possible to we
can tell children start looking.
Room Rua:
Well
done to all those who got a certificate or a prize at the flower show. Another
reminder about wearing appropriate clothing for Athletic practices. Some girls
find it very challenging and awkward in skirts! Bring a spare pair of shorts
just in case the weather is good. Next week we will be hoping to practice 3 times
a week. In Maths we are learning about time.
We have finished all our P.A.T. testing!
Room Toru:
Room Toru have been completing skills assessments in finding information and reading graphs and
tables. We have started out time topic in maths. We have been developing opening
sentences in story writing. In reading we are reading descriptions in non-fiction
articles. Children are enjoying athletics sessions on sunny days as well.
Room
Wha:
It’s
been a busy week with DARE everyday with Constable Herrick and athletics practise. We
are hoping for nice weather on Thursday so we can do discus and shot put with Mr Crosbie.
